A

The loveliest house that I5ve ever lived in was one that I lived in with my grandparents when I was a child. The name of the house was Crosslands. And I have some very happy memories of Crosslands.

It was, it seemed, so huge to me as a child. And it had a lovely living room with a piano in it and a lovely sort of hall with lots of carpets and chests (箱子)and antiques and so on. And there was a mysterious room. It was the drawing room, and we only used it on Sundays, or Christmas Day or Easter Day, and I used to be amazed about

this room because it had the best furniture in it but it was covered up with sheets. It was as if all the furniture was wearing clothes and it seemed to me ridiculous that we couldn’t enjoy this beautiful furniture all the week through. And probably my favorite room was the kitchen. It had a lovely red flagstone floor, which was always highly polished, and an Aga, you know, one of those big cookers that heats the whole room so it was always warm there. It was a very warm room with baked bread and my grandmother used to make ice cream and we’d eat it in there and... there was a vegetable garden leading from there so I spent a lot of time in the vegetable garden picking peas and eating them 一my grandmother used to get really cross with me because I used to pick all the vegetables and the fruit for our meals and then I’d eat half of them, because they tasted so delicious coming fresh from the garden.

I went back to it a few years ago and it was a big mistake. They’ve modernized it inside, they’ve got rid of those lovely old fire-places... have just gone. And they’ve knocked a wall down so the drawing room and the living room have become one big modern plastic kind of room. But I think what upset me most about it was the feeling that the house had shrunk. It had become smaller and my memory of this lovely large warm comfortable house had turned into an old house with modernized rooms inside it. And it taught me a lesson really, that you can’t go back on the past and recapture it. But there’s still a beautiful memory there.

21. Why does the author think the house is the loveliest?

A. Because she has nice memories of the house.

B. Because her grandparents once lived there with her. C. Because the house is named Crosslands.

D. Because the house is huge and modern to her. 22. An Aga (in para. 2) is probably the name of _____.

A. a lovely floor made of red flagstones B. some kind of ancient air-conditioner C. something used for preparing food D. a place where vegetables are grown

23. Which of the following is TRUE about the drawing room?

A. It was amazing due to the clothes in it.

B. It was best furnished but not used very often. C. It was where the author learned drawing. D. It was mysterious on Sundays and festivals.

24. The author thought it was a big mistake to go back to the house largely because

A. the house was in a terrible condition B. the house had a new owner now

C. she couldn’t move back into it any longer

D. it was far from what she had expected

B

Hemrietta (aged 16): The biggest problem with the environment is the ozone layer (臭氧层);there’s a hole, and it’s getting bigger. It’s made by cars and aeroplanes一things give off fumes. There should be a law that you aren’t allowed to go to school by cars because the fumes go up into the ozone layer and mess it up.

Erym (also aged 16): The ozone layer’s like a piece of paper covering a rock. It’s meant to protect us. I’m scared that the hole will get bigger and move around the world and people will get cancer. I think about it sometimes in bed. That could happen in our time. We should stop using aerosols (喷雾),because they get pressed and all the poisons come out. And we could use horses instead of cars.

Hemrietta: We could get tandems--longer bikes, so children could ride on the back. Cars should be very, very expensive. I heard a woman on the radio saying she didn’t care about the ozone layer because she wouldn’t be alive, but it’s our family who will die.

Erym: You also get bad pollution from burning down the rainforest. People should leave things alone if they don’t own them. There should be fines for destroying the rainforest. And we should give money to poor people in Africa.

Hemrietta: We should spread out the people equally. “All those who want to live in Africa, put your hands up!” And then we could spread out the food. There’s enough to go around. We could easily grow it. England’s a very rich and greedy country.

Erym: We use up far more of the earth than people in Africa, so it5s a good idea for the whole world to discuss the environment, but not prime ministers, because they always vote for their own side. The Queen should go instead.

C

I would always remember that day. When I was 14, all I wanted was a unique necklace with my name carved. It was the “in” thing and it seemed every girl except me had one. On my 15th birthday, my Mum gave me a beautiful necklace with my initials (姓名首字母)carved into it. I was in heaven.

What made it even more special was that it was about the only thing that wasn’t being “replaced”. We’d been burnt out in fires that swept through our area earlier that year and had lost everything—so most of the “new” stuff (东西)we got was really just to replace what we’d lost. But not my necklace. My necklace was new.

Then, only one month later, I lost it. I took it off before bed and it was missing in the morning. I was sad and searched everywhere for it. But it seemed to have disappeared. Eventually, I gave up and stopped looking for it. And two years later, we sold the house and moved away.

Years passed, and a couple of moves later, I was visiting my parents’ when Mum told me that she had something for me. It wasn’t my birthday, nor was it Easter or Christmas or any other gift-giving occasion. “You’ll recognize this one at once,” she said, smiling.

Then she handed me a small box. I took it from her and opened it to find my beautiful necklace inside. The family who had bought our house 13 years earlier had recently decided to do some redecorations, which included replacing the carpets. When they pulled the carpet up in my old bedroom, they found the necklace. As it had my initials carved into it, they realized who owned the necklace. They’d had it professionally cleaned up by a jeweler before sending it to my mother. And it still fits me.

29. The underlined word “in” in the first paragraph probably means “ _____”.

A. available B. fashionable C. practical D. renewable 30. When she got the necklace back, the writer was about ____ .

A. 30 years old B. 28 years old C. 15 years old D. 14 years old 31. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A. The writer lost her necklace in the morning when she took it off. B. The writer never stopped looking for her beautiful necklace. C. The writer’s necklace was cleaned up by the new house owner. D. The writer’s family moved several times during her growth. 32. What would be the best title for the passage?

A. My New Necklace B. Lost and Replaced C. Lost and Found D. A beautiful Necklace

D

It is generally believed that we are getting cleaned when we step under a shower. We are, but we’re also giving a home to lots of tiny little creatures we didn’t even know about. A showerhead carries thousands of bacteria (细菌)called Mycobacterium. These can cause problems like coughs and tiredness, and a general feeling of being sick. When you turn on the water, the bacteria go from the showerhead onto and into your body.

This is a finding of Norman R. Pace and his team at the University of Colorado, in the US. Pace,s team looked at 45 showerheads in nine American cities. They discovered that 30 percent of them had large amounts of flying Mycobacterium.

But Pace said that they pose few threats to the health. Only those with a weak immune system might need to worry. He told the New York Times that the bacteria are not as unpleasant as might be thought. He said that having a shower is no more dangerous than anything else we do in the morning.

But for those who feel sick about the idea of all those microorganisms (微生物), he had some advice. Let the water run for 30 seconds before getting into the shower. Why? The number of bacteria is smaller than that when the water is just turned on. If that seems like a waste of water, he added that you could also change your showerhead every few months.

However, Pace had good news, too. He has also been testing the air in US subways. Apart from iron particles (粒子),which are ground off the track by the wheels of trains, subway air is fresh. The reason is that a train’s movement pumps fresh outdoor air into the tunnels.

33. From the finding of Norman R. Pace, after taking a shower, we might cough or feel tired because _____ .

A. it’s easy to get a cold when taking a bath

B. the showerhead carries many bacteria causing illness C. we don’t get cleaned while showering D. we don’t get a weak immune system

34. We can learn from the third paragraph that ____ .

A. having a shower in the morning is more dangerous than at other time

B. the bacteria always threat people’s health when people have a shower C. people with strong immune system needn’t fear microorganisms D. it is better to do some exercise in the morning than have a shower 35. What leads to fresh air in US subways?

A. The train’s movement. B. Iron particles. C. Train wheels. D. Air conditioners on the trains.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中 有两项为多余选项。

For a lot of parents, sending their kids off to college is a bittersweet experience. I think a lot of teenagers head to college without any idea about how money works. Don’t let that happen to your college kid. Help them understand these issues before they step into that first class.

• Budget, budget, budget. 36 So start by making sure you understand budgeting and have begun to use it as part of your financial plan.

• Independence means responsibility. Living away from home means you have to take care of yourself. 37 Food doesn’t just drop out of the sky, and gas doesn’t magically appear in their car. Independence means responsibility.

• 38 Even if your kid is going to a small community college, they’ll still probably have a few thousand dollars of tuition to pay. If you break it down, one class can cost $1,000 at the very minimum! And that doesn’t even include books.

• Choose a major wisely. 39 This isn’t a must before they step on campus, but simply plant a seed that gets them started thinking about what they want to do with their life. You don’t want them graduating with a degree that leaves them unfulfilled or unable to find a job.

• Friends matter. 40 Who you hang out with definitely influences how you spend money and the decisions you make. Without being overbearing, remind them how important it is to have positive friends who build them up instead of bringing them down.

Remember, as a parent, just be there for support and to strengthen these principles throughout their college experience. A. College isn’t cheap. B. Cherish your opportunity. C. Help your teenager find his or her passion. D. However, not all friends can be really depended on. E. New friends mean new opportunities and social situations. F. Do your best to prepare your son or daughter for what that means. G If you aren’t using a budget, it’ll be difficult to convince your kid to use one. 第三部分英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)

As the Chinese saying go, “It takes 10 years to sharpen a sword.” And it has also took 10 years for Hu Ge to improve his acting skills.

This year, his role as the strategic adviser Mei Changsu in the hit TV series (《琅琊榜》),that came to an end on Oct 16, proved that the 33-year-old is a powerful actor.

In fact, ever since he rose to fame for his role as Li Xiaoyao, Hu has worried that he would be stuck in playing same kind of character for the rest of his career. As he was told the Beijing Evening News, “The scariest thing for an actor is being typecast (定型).”

To escape that fate, Hu has taken on different kinds of role. He has acted in modern drama, playing roles such as the eligible bachelor Yuan Hao in Good \"麗. But he once even disappeared from the screen, trying stage acting for one year.

But his efforts to show his acting skills hadn’t paid back until he received the script for N/rvana /n F/re. “Mei Changsu is ill and weak,” he told The Beijing News. “I could not make much physical gestures or dramatic expressions.” Playing the complicated role was challenged, but Hu could understand the character better than most.
