13、Life is full of happiness and bitters. Do you choose to live a happy life or a bittery one?

In my opinion, happiness is for everyone. You don’t need to care about those who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and lots of money and so on. Why? Because those who have big house may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads at their free time. In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you; when you study hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking good care of your life and your health; when you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you; when you do something good to others, you will feel happy, too. All these are your happiness. If you notice them, you can see that happiness is always around you. Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are very happy, because you have something else that can’t be bought with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have bad luck. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving (旋转) door. When it closes, it also opens. If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person. 1.Happiness is for .

14、It’s a long-awaited (期待已久) day for China. The navy now has its first aircraft carrier(航空母舰), Liaoning. It’s a unique experience to get to know the life in the carrier. The carrier is just like a small city on the sea. It has all the functions for daily life. There are 4 words to sum up its characters: big, small, much and high. The carrier Liaoning is such a huge one that the total length of the whole corridorcould reach over 20 kilometers. But the living space for (过道)the sailors is quite small. That’s because the carrier is designed for researching purposes, rather than comfortable living. Over 1,000 sailors, both men and women, are living on board. They are arranged among over 3,000 tiny rooms below the deck. For visitors, it’s so easy to get lost. So the first thing the new sailors have to learn is their way around. The number of female sailors is much smaller than that of the males, taking about 5 percent of the total. But they play a key role in carrying out some special missions.

Also, you will be surprised by the high level of education of today’s sailors. The captain said that over 90 percent of the sailors are college graduates. Six hold Doctor’s Degrees and 45 have a Master’s. The whole team is young but vigorous (精力充沛的). The complex work on the carrier requires high management abilities for the commanders on board.

1.Why do we visitors get lost easily inside the carrier?

A.Because they don’t have a map. B.Because the living space is quite small.

C.Because there are too many corridors for rooms. D.Because the corridor inside the carrier is too long. 2.What does the word “high” in Line 4 refer to(指代)? A.The aircraft carrier is high since it is just like a small city. B.Most of the soldiers received good education. C.The expense(花费)to run a carrier is high. D.The high-level of their training.

Best Tool to Teach Baby Talk

A new study says electronic toys are not helping babies learn. The study’s writer is Professor Anna Sosa. She leads the Child Speech and Language Lab at Northern Arizona University. She said, “Even if companies say that their toys are educational, they’re not teaching the babies anything at this time.” Anna Sosa and her team studied babies who were from 10 to 16 months old.

The scientists listened to recordings of parents playing with their babies. The children used electronic toys, traditional toys and books.

What they found is that parents talked less with their babies when the babies played with electronic toys. Sosa says that the parents also responded(反应) less and used fewer words when the babies played with electronic toys. Why is this important?

She says research shows that how quickly children develop language often depended on what they hear from parents. When the babies played with electronic toys, parents said little to their children. Sosa says parents talked a lot more when the babies played with traditional toys. Parents would describe the toys, name them and tell about their colors and

shapes, as their children played. Parents even gave more information as their babies looked at the pictures in books. Sosa is not telling parents to throw out electronic toys. She believes that these electronic toys can provide entertainment(娱乐) for the babies. But parents should not look at such play as a learning experience. Toy Industry Association spokeswoman Adrienne Appell responded to the study.

She said, “It is important that parents make time to play with their children. Playing is a way that kids can learn so much, not only learning skills, but social and developmental skills.” She added that play should be balanced, including time for just “make-believe” activities, as well as traditional and electronic toys. 1.(小题1)According to the study, electronic toys teach babies . 2.(小题2)From this passage we can learn that . A.parents’ talk helps baby to learn language quickly B.playing with electronic toys is a kind of learning experience C.Sona advised parents to throw away electronic toys

19、There are some ways to communicate with others, such as talking face to face, singing songs, using body and sign language, writing a letter, chatting on line, sending text messages.

My friends and I usually have a talk face to face because we live near each other. We often send text messages, too. We can discuss our homework, talk about our interesting games. Sometimes we make phone calls.

I think the best way to communicate is the mobile phone. It is one of the most welcome and useful inventions. After mobile phones appear, communication becomes easier and rapider. With the help of the phones, people can keep in touch with anyone at any time and in any place. (118)
