We had moved from Cairo to Mt. Vernon, Illinois, far away from my grandmother when I was eight years old. I missed her a lot. I was told I was her favorite grandchild; She was my favorite“granny”. She was my father’s mother.

Two years later my mother and father divorced(离婚). I felt as if my world was falling apart. My heart was broken. Mother must have known my sadness, for she would take my little brother and my back to visit my Granny from time to time, even after the divorce.

I always know Granny loved us. It was something you could feel with your heart, even when your world upside down.

Granny had never had much money. But it was the little things she gave me that had always mattered.

Though she didn’t have much, neither did we, she did something for my brother Tommie and me. I will always remember she saved her pennies in a glass jar. I am sure Granny could have used those pennies herself but she saved them to give us when we came to visit. Because I was the older one I was in charge of dividing the pennies equally(平等地) between my brother and me.

“One for you, one for me,” I would repeat until the jar was empty.

I don’t remember how much we collected on our visits, nor was the amount important. It was the idea that she remembered us, and cared about us, when we were away from her.

Those memories of when I was a child, still give me warm feelings on days that I need them. A granny’s love stays with a grandchild, down through the years, even when that child becomes a grandma herself.

On last Christmas Day, our parents’ home was full of joys of a close family relationship, but this year things were different. Our father had passed away on November 26, and this was our first Christmas without him. Mother was doing her best to be good, but I could tell this was especially hard for her. I wondered if I should give her my planned Christmas gift.

A few months earlier I had been putting the finishing touches on portraits I had painted each of my parents. I’d planned to give them as Christmas gifts.

While painting one day, I was surprised by the doorbell ringing. I opened the door. My father came. I showed him the paintings. Finally, with a tear running down his face, he said, “I don’t believe it. Look how beautiful your mother is. Will you let me have them framed?”I happily volunteered to drop them off the next day at the frame shop.

Several weeks had passed after my dad died. It seemed all joy was taken from my mother and me. I finally remembered to call about the portrait framing and was glad that my father had got a chance to see the pictures before he died. I was surprised when the shopkeeper told me my father had visited the shop, paid for the framing and had them wrapped.

As I looked into my mother’s sad eyes and unsmiling face, I decided to give her Daddy’s and my gift.

After looking at the portraits and the card, with tear-filled eyes and a wide smile, she said,“I knew Daddy would be with us on Christmas Day!”

I looked at the gift card with my father’s handwriting“Mother: Our daughter reminded me why I am so blessed. I’ll be looking at you always. Daddy.” 66. Why did the writer think the things were different this year? A. Because the writer’s father died.

Her father paid for the framing.

D. The writer’s father knew that he would die.

69. Why did the writer’s mother smile after looking at the portraits and the card? A. Because she felt the love from her husband and daughter. B. Because she received the portraits. C. Because it was Christmas Day.

D. Because her husband’s handwriting was beautiful. 70.The passage mainly tells us . A. something about Christmas Day B. her father’s death
