TransLink is urging customers to avoid nonessential travel today and to stay home where possible in the difficult weather conditions.

TransLink chief executive officer Peter Strachan said bus and train services were continuing to run where possible, however all CityCat and CityFerry services had been cancelled until further notice.

“These are extremely difficult conditions for South East Queensland—we are running essential services where possible but safety remains to be the most important,” Mr Strachan said.

Severe weather and associated flooding has impacted on all modes of public transport, with bus, ferry and train services all impacted to varying degrees.“If you are planning to use public transport at anytime over the next few days, then I would recommend you check that your intended service is still running.”

Service disruptions (中断) for today include: City network trains running hourly on all lines.

Bus diversions, delays and cancellations in some regions, particularly across Brisbane, Ipswich and the Sunshine Coast.

CityCat and CityFerry services cancelled.

Queensland Rail Chief Executive Officer Paul Scurrah said rising waterways had closed some train lines, and road closures and damage to property throughout the SouthEast had contributed to a shortage of available rail employees.

“We intend to run trains hourly on all lines, similar to the timetable we operate on Christmas Day. We will also be looking to run other additional services to meet demand as required. At this stage we will run services stopping at all stations which will depart at the same time on the hour; however, this is all subject to the weather conditions and the availability of traincrew.”

Mr Scurrah encouraged all customers to visit the Translink website for specific departure times for their station, and asked for patience in the event of delays.

“Queensland Rail appreciates that reduced services may cause disruptions but it is simply unavoidable. We have a dedicated and experienced team monitoring the situation around the clock and will be working to reopen the network as soon as practically possible,” Mr Scurrah said.

We have known the differences in pronunciation between British English and

American English since Fred .Astaire and Ginger Rogers sang Let's Call The Whole thing Off in the 1937 film Shall We Dance. It is widely believed that American English is

beginning to have control of the English language instead of British English. But new research by experts at the British Library has found that British English is alive and thinks little of its American competitor. The study has found that most British English speakers are refusing to use American pronunciation for everyday words.

It is also discovered that British English is developing at a faster speed than American English, meaning that it is Americans who remain more \"traditional\" in pronunciation. Jonnie Robinson,an expert at the British Library, said: \"British English and American English continue to be different from each other in the way they pronounce words. But that doesn't mean that British English speakers are continuing to use traditional pronunciation while American,English speakers come up with their own choices. In fact,it is the other way around. British English is changing while American English remains traditional in its pronunciation.\"

Researchers recorded the voices of more than 10,000 English speakers from home and abroad. The volunteers(志愿者) were asked to read short passages from a book by Roger

People seem to always love themselves. When put to a test, we are willing to go an extra mile for our friends.

In an experiment, people were asked to squat (深蹲) against a wall, which became increasingly painful with time. They were told to keep squatting for as long as they could, and paid 1 dollar for every second. People performed the exercise five times, once for themselves and four times for their friends or partners.

The result paints a more selfless picture of society than we might expect these days. Of the 17 people,,ten squatted longer for their friends or partners. Some people squatted twice as long for their closest friends as for themselves.

Dr Freya Harrison said, \"I think that if our results stand in general and people really do go the extra mile for close friends, it points to the importance of cooperation in our species. It suggests that keeping social relationships and ' working together have been important roles in the success of humans as a species.\"

A study found people were unwilling to squat any longer for their brothers or sisters than for themselves. \"Maybe that's because friends are a lot more important in deciding social benefits than brothers and sisters,\" Dr Harrison said. Perhaps we can depend on help from parents or brothers and sisters because people almost have no reason for helping someone who has the same genes (基因) as them.

It could be that the role of a brother or a sister doesn't need working on, because family members have genes in common already. 66. What can we learn from the passage?

A. It isn't hard for people to squat for a long time: B. People don' t like to take part in this kind of experiment. C. The result of the experiment is better than expected.

D. In order to get money, people squat as long as possible for themselves. 67. From the experiment, We can know . A. the importance of working together B. people are unwilling to help strangers

C. friends can become a great help to us in the future

D. people are willing to do more for friends than for themselves 68. What works as a key role in the success of humans as a species?

A. Developing personal skill and technology. B. Keeping social relationships and cooperation. C. Getting enough daily goods and supplies. D. Having a happy family as well as a career. 69. In Harrison’s opinion, .

A.friends can influence our social benefits much more B. friends are true friends for ever

C. family members offer more to us than friends

D. people are selfish

70. What is the best tittle for the passage? A. Why we should make friends B. Family is important to people

C. Friends are more important than family D. Why we’ll go an extra mile for our friends

Bright red post boxes, the Queen and queuing—what do they all have in common? They are all important parts of British life. At least I thought so.

However, the ability to queue for long periods of time, once believed to be a traditional characteristic of the British, is no longer tolerated by people in the UK, according to a survey done for British bank Barclays.

Once upon a time, queuing was seen as normal. During World War II, everyone had to queue up to receive their daily supply of foods. In fact, if you didn't stand up and wait in line with all the others, it was seen as uncivilized(不文明的).

The famous English doubledecker buses, with only one entrance, might also help explain why queuing was seen as a part of British line. Almost always, there is a queue to get on.

But perhaps the British are tired of being pushed past by the Spanish, the Italians or the French as they queue up to get a table at a restaurant. The people of these other European countries have more than one entrance to their houses, which explains their more relaxed attitude to the queue.

Two minutes is now the longest time most British people are prepared to stand and wait. But could it be that the Internet, which allows us to carry out tasks quickly, is the main reason why British people are no longer prepared to queue?

“Used to buying without delay, customers are even giving up purchases rather than wait their turn,” says Stuart Neal of Barclaycard. “Shoppers are also less likely to queue for long if the item they are buying is of low value.”

Perhaps I will have to replace “queuing” with “impatience” in my list of things I relate to the British.

A. the British get impatient with queuing for long B. the British have to queue to receive food C. the British like to eat in foreign restaurants D. the British prefer to take doubledecker buses

70.The author's main purpose of writing the passage is______.

Among all the workplace etiquette guidelines(指南),the most important is to be punctual to your office. Though going late due to an emergency is okay, habitual late comers are never appreciated in any organization. By arriving at your office on time, you show that you're aware of your responsibilities and have respect for the organization. In case you feel that you would be late, call the concerned authority and report the matter to him or her.

Also, a proper knowledge of the workplace email etiquette is a must. In the official emails, you need to mention the subject concisely(简洁地),while at the same time include all the important details which are to be shared. You should use good and grammatically correct language while writing emails.

If you get a call in between, receive it after you're permitted by the others by saying “excuse me”. Don't talk loudly while eating.
