◆Alice's Adventures in Wonderland By Lewis Carroll
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland mainly tells the story of a little girl called Alice in a dream. She was running after a white rabbit which had pink eyes and could talk. She fell down a strange rabbit hole. Then she experienced many strange things: her body became big and small; caterpillar would also smoke; people who/that played cards would also play croquet; hateful queen always shouted, “Cut off his head!”Finally, there was contradiction among Alice, poker queen and king. Alice only worried waking from the dream.
This is a strange dream and also a fantastic story. I like Alice because she is kind, lively and lovely. She is compassionate, full of curiosity and brave. When the queen wants to cut the gardener's head, she saved him. Alice is still a strong child. When she met difficulties, she would think, “What's the use of crying? I must find a way to solve the difficulties.”
I like the book, especially the main characters and the strange animals. I want to learn from Alice about her kindness to others and her bravery against difficulties.

◆ An honest woodcutter
Long ago, there was a good and honest woodcutter. One day, when he was cutting wood beside a lake, he lost his axe in the water. The water was deep, and he could not get his axe back. He had only one axe, and he needed it to make his living. He sat down and began to cry. As he cried, a spirit appeared. She asked the man what
was wrong. She listened to the woodcutter and felt sorry for him. But what could she do to help? Suddenly she came up with a great idea. The spirit dove into the lake and brought back a gold axe.
“Is this the axe you lost?” asked the good spirit. The man looked at the gold axe, knowing it wasn't his. Because he was honest, he admitted to the spirit that it wasn't his axe.
So the spirit dove into the water again and brought back a silver axe. Once again, the man said that was not his axe. The spirit went down a third time and returned with the woodcutter's old axe. “That is the right one!” said the woodcutter. The spirit was so happy with the woodcutter's honesty that she gave him the other two axes as presents.
Honesty truly is the best policy. ◆A big tree and a young tree
A young father asked an elderly neighbor how strict parents should be with their children.
The old man pointed to a rope between a big tree and a young one, saying, “Untie the rope.”
The young father did so and at once the young tree bent. Then the old man asked the young man to tie it again, and immediately the young tree stood upright as it used to.
Now the old man said, “There, it is the same with children. You must be strict with them for their healthy growth. But sometimes you must let them stand alone to see if they are strong enough. Being strict with them is for the sake of their independence development.”
