三.阅读理解(共十小题,每小题2分,满分20分)。

A

Computers are very important to modern life. Many people think that in the future computers will be used in lots of everyday life. It is thought that we won't have to go shopping because we will be able to get most things which are sold in shops on the Internet. There will be no more books because we will be able to get all texts from computers. The Internet will be used to play games, see films and buy food. Most telephone calls will be made by computers, too.

Some people are glad about these new ways of shopping and communicating.

Others do not think that computers will replace our old ways.

Let's look at books, for example. Some people think that one day we will not read hooks made of paper. Instead, we will buy and read books using computers. We will read text on small pocket computers. The computers will keep many different books in them at the same time. We won't need to turn lots of pages and paper will be saved. Computerized(计算机化)books will be used more and more.

Is Internet shopping such a pleasure as going to the shop? Many people say it is not. It is a pleasure to go into shops and look at things you want to buy. It is also unlikely (不大可能) that many people will want to read large texts on our computers. Because paper books will perhaps be more friendly. Maybe computers won't change these two habits.

It is true that the first Olympic Games of the modern times in 1896 were not open to women. Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who gave new life to the Games, was very much a man of his time. He didn't like women showing up for the Games. But since this time, things have changed. History shows that the number of women participating_in the Olympic Games has been increasing over the years, since their first participation in the 1900 Olympic Games and especially in the last 30 years. This development is of social, political and cultural significance(意义).

The progress is the result of the cooperation(合作)of the entire Olympic Movement and of proper measures that the International Olympic Committee(IOC), International Sports Federations(IFs), and National Olympic Committees(NOCs)have taken. Especially in the last 20 years, the IOC has enlarged the women's program at the Olympic Games, in cooperation with IFs and the Organizing Committees for the Olympic Games(OCOGs). This development was further strengthened(巩固)by the IOC's decision that all sports must have women's events. Former President Juan Antonio Samaranch, who wanted to have women as IOC members, made a great contribution(贡献) 。
