Teamwork is of vital importance to success. But people are having differing opinions about which kind of team may be most likely to succeed: A team that every member in it holds his or her own opinion and try to convince others or a team that all the member get into the same standpoint under different situation? As far as I’m concerned, I definitely fall into the first category.
To begin with, it is universally acknowledged that various views can boost creativity in a team. If every member of the team holds the same opinion, progress and ideas cannot be come up with since there is even no debating and interaction between them. A team with diversity of individual opinions will be more creative and can achieve excellent success. A good case in point is the company of Microsoft. Except Bill Gates, there is a great R&D team employed in this famous company. Every remarkable product, such as Windows, Office, Internet Explore, assembles diverse creative ideas. During the stage of researching and developing, they do their utmost to get every last detail right and constantly challenge others’ idea. How could these work of art be possible without exchange of distinct opinions and thoughts?
Another equally important aspect has something to do with risks and uncertainties. There is no doubt that every plan that has not been amended carefully would has some risks and uncertainties. For instance, a plan to invest a shopping hall must take things into consideration, such as whether it can attract enough people to shopping, whether its margin profit can be sustain considerably over the next 10 years and whether there will be another shopping hall opened near it in the near future. A plan contains several different levels that should be
thought of. Only with the diverse experience and unique perspectives a team can avoid all the risks and uncertainties of the plan. And then, the success can be ensured.
Admittedly, a team with diversity opinions may have problems in some cases. For one thing, if the different opinions cannot be compromised at the end, it is impossible for a plan to be execute. However, a lot of time, resource and energy have been wasted. For another, if some members were to too individualistic for their own sake, a collective goal is unlikely to be achieved as a team is often work for a group of shareholders rather than any one in the team. However, as long as the team has an authoritative leader who has a powerful leadership and is able to distribute those responsibilities properly, I don’t see there is anything to worry about.
With all the aspects carefully discussed above, we can draw a conclusion that despite of several problems in some cases, a team holding diverse ideas will achieve success with their creativity and multi-perspective.
