1. addication to the internet
Today, more and more teenagers have addicted into the internet games. Every afternoon we can see hundreds and thousands of yang students pour into the Internet cafes after class, though they are only 15 or 16 years old.
As is well known, playing video games can do much harm to the teenagers. Firstly, it an enormous waste of time, thus teens will have little time for their study. Secondly, if the teenagers spend most of their spare time in playing internet games, they will lost the opportunity that communication with others, even lose lots of good students. Thirdly, we all know that many of our games are full of lover and violence which are unhealthy to our young students ; however some of them do some things that break the law.
In my opinion, the whole society should pay more attention to the problem, especially the parents and the game manufactures. Let us create a clear study environment for our teens together, 2. Advertisement and products
When it comes to advertisement and products, some people believe successful selling of products can’t be separated from advertisement. To begin with, advertisement keeps people informative about the price and function of products; what’s more, advertisement can help to improve products’ brand awareness and its reputation.
But on another hand, only with good quality can advertisement arouse customers’ interest in the products. Otherwise, advertisement can be misleading and deceptive.
From what has been discussed above, we may safely draw a conclusion that honest and colorful advertisement brings benefits to products, but at the same time, products’ quality can’t be ignored. 3. buying or borrowing books?
Books are close friends of humanity. They can arm us with knowledge and information we need to make success of life. Through books we can obtain skills and techniques for survival and development. Through books we can enlighten our spirits and live a fuller life. There are generally two ways in which we can have access to books: borrowing or buying. While millions are borrowing books, I still think buying them best suits me and gives me the greatest enjoyment. Admittedly, there are a few merits for borrowing books. For one thing, borrowing books can save us huge amounts of money. And of course, with the money saved we can do other more worthy things .And also, as we borrow books from the library and friends, we normally have deadline to finish them, and consequently we can read more books in a limited time. And we can, above all, better our efficiency of our reading, just as a famous Chinese saying goes, “books can not be read unless borrowed.”
However, some advantages for buying books are more obvious and compelling. One of them, definitely not shared by the choice of borrowing books, is the abundance of freedom that buying books can offer us. Since we can keep the books as long as we wish, we can read as much as we want. Another strength of owing books is that we can take whatever notes on the margin of the pages of the books. And finally, the process of selecting and keeping books can be a great fun that borrowing books can by no means offer.
While borrowing books can, to some extent, quench our thirst for knowledge, buying books gives us greater pleasure of selecting and keeping the best of the world treasure. Can we think of any thing else more delightful and rewarding?
4. Do you agree that television has destroyed communication among friends and family?
While television has been somewhat harmful in its effects, it has hardly “destroy” communication among
friends and family, although for some people, the statement that television has destroyed communication among friends and family seems true.
Television, invented in last century, with its widely availability, more and more abundant television
programs become one of the most powerful ways of communication in the history, and more and more difficult to ignore it. Television has become a necessary part of our daily lives, and its weightiness is the same as our meals, work or school; studies constantly show that on average American children spend on watching television as almost the same much time as they do in school. We have only 24 hours a day, obviously, more time is spent on television, and less time is done with family and friends. Therefore, we can often see the article in newspaper or magazines: Television took my husband away from me.
It is hardly true, tempting as such claim might be. It is not television took her husband away from her, but more and more stress of modern life did it. We have no accurate evidence to testify that today people endure more stress than did their counterparts in the past, but it is absolutely true that nowadays people undergo great pressures from many aspects, including work, school, economic, and so on. Investigation shows that the people who earn more than 50000 Yuan annually spend on work at least 60 hours per week, much more than those who earn 20000 Yuan annually. Nowadays, a bachelor degree may not guarantee a satisfied pay work, more and more companies post their advertisements claiming that applicants must have a master degree, which take two or three years longer.
In the modern society, in fact, people have very little time to do anything. Television is only one of the many factors that affects communication, and is not assured the main cause of degradation. It seems that the more one is educated, the more one is aware of the harmful effects that too much television causes, or intentionally avoiding it, or just not enjoying it. On the other hands, it is indeed true that some people are fascinating in
television. But actually, even if television doesn’t exist, those people can also find other ways to escape, such as drinking or betting. In other words, people always find a way to do what they want to. As a result, I don’t agree that television has destroyed communication among friends and family 5. Film Is Giving Way to TV
If you are good at observation, you may find that fewer people today prefer to going to the cinema to watching TV at home. And this phenomenon is proved by the above graph. Let's look at the graph. It shows that from 1975 to 1985,the number of TV watchers increased steadily, while the number of film-goers drastically decreased.
There aret I think, at least two reasons for this trend. Fist of all, one, sitting in front of the TV, can always find his/her favorite program, for there is always a great variety of programs which can satisfy different
1
tastes. But in this respect, the cinema can never be compared with TV. Secondly, it is simply easy and comfortable for people to watch TV indoors. Watching TV saves people the trouble of going out and lining up for tickets and so on. They just sit somewhere, and, with the remote controller in hand, enjoy themselves. Nevertheless few as they are, some people always enjoy going to the cinema. TV can never take the place of the film for these people. For them, the film always has its unique charm. They go to the cinema for the particular atmosphere and the feeling of getting involved in the action.
As we know, no dish suits all tastes. Similarly, while many people prefer watching TV at home, a few like go to the cinema.
6. has television destroyed communication among friends and family?
There is no doubt that television has greatly changed people's lives. After its invention, it became an almost indispensable part of most households within the space of just a few years. Nowadays, many families have two or even three television sets so that every member of the family can watch what he wants whenever he wants. In my opinion, this has significantly reduced the amount of time that family and friends spend communicating with each other.
Before the invention of television, people spent their leisure time in more active and social pursuits. They often played cards or other games, listened to the radio together or went out to see friends. But now television is widely available and it offers a variety of program choices that appeal to almost every interest. People no longer have to look to others for entertainment. Also, television can be like a sedative. Studies have shown that watching a great deal of television makes people more passive. Finally, people are simply watching increasing amounts of television. And with two or three TV sets in the house, there is no need for them to even watch it together.
Although television has reduced the amount of time that family and friends spend together, it doesn't have to be this way. People can make the choice to turn off the TV and do something more active. Or, if they really want to watch TV, they can find a thought-provoking program that they would all like to watch and discuss afterwards.
7. is reading more enjoyable than watching movies?
Billions of dollars are spent on entertainment every year, in every country in the world. Much of this money is spent on either movies or fictional books, as these two types of entertainment are found to be most enjoyable by the masses. Which, however, is more enjoyable? I posit that these mediums cannot be compared so easily, as they both have their strong points in regards to entertainment.
When one reads a fictional book, one is able to let his/her imagination run wild. Everything from the setting to the character descriptions is left up to the reader's mind, and therefore can be quite enjoyable. Depending on the novel, of course, one can imagine far away places just by the description read in the novel. Books are also an excellent form of entertainment as they are portable. If one is on a long commute to work, which is common in Beijing, one can bring along a favorite novel, effectively taking his/her entertainment with him/her. Books can be enjoyed in any setting. They can be picked up on a whim, and put down again to return to at a later time.
Movies, of course, also have their own benefits. Movies allow the viewer to be completely engrossed in the plot. There is no need for thinking, as everything is presented to you in a straightforward form. One never has to ponder what a place or a person looks like; the information is all accessible to the viewer. This can be an advantage or a disadvantage, depending on what one is looking for in his/her entertainment.
In a society where we want everything faster, better and more exciting, perhaps movies are a more relevant medium. However, movies demand at least an hour and a half of one's time. Books are available to their consumers whenever there is time, which is also an important feature. In conclusion, I believe that neither books nor movies are a more enjoyable form of entertainment. In some cases, I prefer to read a book. In others, a movie is vastly more enjoyable. It is up to the consumer to decide. 8. Is reading fiction more enjoyable than watching movies?

Modern life would be unimaginable without telecommunications. Telephone, fax and TV are already household words. New terms like pager, mobile phone and E-mail are entering our daily life at a rapid pace.
Telecommunications have penetrated nearly every aspect of modern life and are fast changing the way we live.
2
It is no exaggeration to say that telecommunication bring huge profits and great convenience our daily life. For instance, the telephone makes it possible for people in different places to talk to one another. Pager and mobile phone enable us to make a phone call regardless of time and place. Compared with ordinary mail delivery, or even with express airmail delivery, electronic mail delivers mails much faster and at a surprisingly cheap price, no matter where the receiver is. Surfing the Internet is also a by-product of telecommunication, which, provides us with easy access to a wealth of information. Furthermore, thanks to the rapid growth of telecommunications, business corporations can manage business affairs far more efficiently through phone, fax, and on-line computer.
However, there are disadvantages brought about by telecommunication, such as phone bills for unnecessary talks, the disturbance of unwanted or wrong calls, and the attraction of hot-line services, etc. Yet by and large, telecommunications bring more benefit than harm to our life. By shortening distance, telecommunication enhance efficiency in our commercial activities, save time and money in promoting interpersonal relations as well as in acquiring knowledge and accumulating information. Telecommunication have changed and will change our way of life.
10. The Function of Mass Media
Mass media are very important tools of communication, through which information is passed to even the farthest end of the world. They enable us to communicate with each other by helping us to overcome the barriers of time and apace.
Mass media function in various ways. Below are listed the most commonly seen.
First, mass media keep us well informed of the happenings of the world which would otherwise remain unknown.
Second, mass media persuade us mostly through advertisements. As we can see, newspapers, magazines and TV are filled with all kinds of colourful, persuasive advertisements which tempt us to buy their products.
Third, mass media give us entertainment. Television and radio broadcasting provide us with a big variety of programmes every day. Films, books, magazines, etc. give us daily amusement.
In a word, mass media will be all the more important in the future and their fufietions will enormously expand.Limited by apace, only a few examples are mentioned here. 11. The Grading of Films(电影分级)
Films and TV series are now not graded in China. Therefore, no matter what kind of fihn or TV series is being shown, it is connnon to see parents and children going to the cinema together, or the whole family, grandparents, parents, and children, sitting together in front of the same TV set enjoying the same film or series. Some people think this has given rise to at least two problems.
The first problem is that fihn makers are caught in a dilemma because they do not know what kind of film they should make to satisfy both the adults and the children. They must make great efforts to meet the satisfaction of the adults, and at the same time go out of their way to avoid imposing bad influence on the children. Consequently, they lose both kinds of audiences, wasting a lot of money. The second problem is that non graded fihns and TV series might give young viewers, especially children, the wrong moral impression. They see a lot of violence, sex and crime in films and TV series that are not intended for them. Many young people try to imitate in their daily life what they saw in films and TV series, which are harmful both to the society and to the individuals.
I think it absolutely necessary that the fihns be graded. I am afraid that some very common misdemeanor among school children and the increased crime rate in teenagers in resent years are partly due to the influence from the fihns and TV series for adults. Fihns and TV series ought to educate the young not to ruin them. 12. The Internet in China
With the arrival of the knowledge economy age, the internet, as a new media has come into out life. Nowadays , getting on line and using the intenet has become popular in China, especially in some big cities. Why is the internet getting so popular in such a short-time!
The popularity of the internet results from its great. With the Internet, it is convenient and fast for people to get a variety of information and what they need is just to press key buttons . E-mail is another popular use. It can transmit your letter quick;y, safely and accurately. Besides, the Internet can have some other uses: Doctors may use it to diagnose and treat their patients by discussing or exchanging experience with doctors in other parts of the world. Students may obtain new knowledge from a national-long-distance-educational-system via the Internet; Fimally, businessmen can conduct E-commerce or E-business on the Net.
With so many uses and advantages, there is no doutb more and more people will be wired to Internet-the information expressway. In short, with its high speed and efficiency, the Internet will be more popular in China in the near future.
13. The traditional and on-line shopping
With the advent of the internet, shopping online becomes increasingly popular nowadays. It is a concussion to the traditional shopping way that we buy things in real-life stores.Comparing the two methods, there are advantage and disadvantage both of them.
Traditional shopping is a funny way.We can go to shop with friends, enjoy the sunshine, communicate with the shopkeeper and bargain the goods. The products are really existent and you can touch them or compare
them. Also,we can try clothes to sure whether the color and the fashion are suit ourselves.Nevertheless, there are weak points shopping outside .It is not convenient and it wastes time, moreover we are easy to get tired of walking from one shop to another.
By contrast with traditional purchasing way, shopping online is more quickly and conveniently. We can buy things at any time and it is not necessary to worry about the weather is good or not.Besides, the internet offers extensive information and the products online are so many that you have more choices. Many of them are even much cheaper than you buy in department store.
Yet, there are also disadvantages shopping online. It may be unsafe to enter private card details on the internet. It is easy to be cheated when you shop online.Furthermore, the appearances of the products which are showed in the shop on the net are often different from in the real life. You may not receive the things that you want
3
exactly.Besides ,the products may not be delivered on time. Moreover,we have to pay for postage extra for the goods that we buy online .
In a word, to choose the traditional method or to choose the modern method is just depending on our need and our habits. We can weigh the pros and cons both of them and choose either way to facilitate our lives. 14. the ways to get information?
There are many different ways to get information. On the one hand, the traditional ways such as newspapers , magazines , books ,and so on play a very important role in obtaining the information for many people. On the other hand, with the development of science and technology, internet and multi-media become more and more popular for people to get information.
As far as I am concerned, I like to get information through reading newspapers. There are three reasons for this. First, there are many interesting things on the newspaper besides what I am looking for. Second, I like to read the printed words which will always give me a deeper understanding of the language. As was said by Francis Bacon , reading makes a full man. Third, it provides me with a chance to clip down all the articles and useful things so as to be kept for later use.
In conclusion, different people prefer different ways to get what they want . However, it is necessary to keep in mind that no definite way is suitable for all circumstances . With the development of science and technology, we’d better make good use of the advanced media so as to 15. using cell phones on campus
With the development of science and technology, mobile telephone becomes more and more popular. Even the studentson campus begin to use mobile telephone. Is it a good or bad thing?
Mobile telephone , on the one hand, is good to the students. For one thing , it enables them to keep in touch with their friends and family more conveniently and quickly. For another, it can make the students fashionable and proud. On the other hand, mobile telephone has a negative effect on the students. First , it will cost them more money than before. Second, it will distract them fromtheir study. Third, it will sometimes become a nuisance especially when it rings in class or in the library.
In my opinion , it is not good for the students on campus to use mobile telephone . Since the students’ main purpose on campus is to study , they should pay much attention to their study. If they want to use mobile telephone , they can use it after graduation.
16. Ways to Communicate with Friends
In the present era of information, people usually spend most of their spare time surging on the internet and are reluctant to invite their friends for relaxation such as fishing, skating and hiking and so forth. Consequently, the communication with their friends becomes less and less. In my opinion, however, it is very necessary for people to communicate with their friends frequently in our modern society. Otherwise, people will gradually become isolated and lose interest in events surrounding them. I think it’s harmful for people’s mental health.
The general way I prefer to communicate with my friends is the phone call. In the case that I can not spare enough time to meet my friends face to face, I often make a phone call to my friends, chatting about what has happened in our city. Besides the phone call, sending e-mail is also a better approach (is also a good/ is a better) for me to keep in touch with my friends. Many of my friends live aboard where I can not phone them directly due to a high charge for phone call, I usually resort to e-mail writing. Every week I send e-mails to my friends who live in America, Australia and in other nations. In spite of the long way between us, I can communicate with them freely, knowing the trifles even their neighbors don’t learn about. Certainly, the best and most efficient way to communicate, I think, is to turn off my computer, go out of my office and pay a visit to my friends or invite them for a party.
Nevertheless, I think the way adopted by one person to communicate with friends is not the most important. The most important thing is one’s attitude to friends. Showing respect, honesty and loyalty to friends is the basic element for successful and efficient communication. 17. why is internet getting so popular in china?
With the arrival of the knowledge economy age, Internet, as a new media, has come into our life. Nowadays, getting on line and surfing the Internet for information has become popular in China, especially among college students and teachers. Why is Internet getting so popular in such a short time?
The popularity of Internet results from its great convenience and easy accessibility to information. Thanks to the Internet, a world of information is just a click away. E-mail is another contributing factor to its popularity. It can transmit your letter quickly, safely and accurately. Besides, Internet has some other uses. Doctors may use it to diagnose and treat their patients by discussing or exchanging experiences with doctors in other parts of the world. Students may obtain new knowledge from a national long-distance educational system via Internet. Finally, businessman can conduct E-commerce or E-business on the net.
With so many uses and advantages, there is no doubt more and more people will be wired to the Internet-the information expressway. In short, with its high speed and efficiency, Internet will be more popular in China in the near future.
18. will computer replace human beings?
We are in the computer age today. The computers are working all kinds of wonders now. They are very useful in automatic control and data processing. At the same time, computers are finding their way into the home. They seem to be so clever and can solve such complicated problems that some people think sooner or later they will replace us. But I do not think that there is such a possibility. My reason is very simple: computers are machines, not humans. And our tasks are far too various and complicated for any one single kind of machine to perform. Probably the greatest difference between man and computer is that the former can do things of his own while the latter can do nothing without being programmed. In my opinion, computers will remain nothing but an extension of our human brains, no matter how clever and complicated they may become. 19. will phones kill letter writing
Nowadays phones play more and more important part in our society. On the contrary, letter-writing became not as common as the past. So someone hold that phones will kill letter-writing in future. However, I do not agree with them.
4
It could not be denied that phones can make people keep in touch with each other more convenient and easily, but letter-writing still has its advantages, so it will not be killed in future. First, sending a letter is much cheaper than having a telephone call. Second, people can not only greet each other but also exchange their thoughts in letters. When a person writes, he can organize his mind and express his idea and feelings more logically and completely, but it is hard for phones to make it. Finally, people can easily keep secret in the letter and say whatever they want to say, while they sometimes can not do that in a telephone.
So from the above, we can conclude that no matter how important the phones is, letter-writing will not be killed for ever
20. Your Favorite Type of Films
If I had to describe a type of film I like, I would choose to speak about comedies.I am sure you have seen many comedies in your life.
As far as how often I watch a comedy is concerned, I guess it is as much as possible. That is to say, when I rent a movie, I always find out if there are any new ones available that I have not seen. There are several features of comedy films I would like to talk about. Allow me to explain by mentioning some of them briefly.
First of all, comedies are great fun. What I mean to say is that I have a good laugh while watching.Secondly, comedies seldom contain violent scenes. For instance, you would not easily find murders, shooting, fighting, and so on in a comedy.
Lastly, comedies often contain excellent acting by famous stars. For example, Robbie Williams in 'Mrs. Doubtfire’ is considered one of the most extraordinary performances ever by an actor. So, those were some thoughts on my favorite kind of film.
