Seeing is not believing

Ladies and gentleman my name is Gao Xuehong and I feel honored to be here to deliver a message.

As the saying goes,” Seeing is believing”. It means that what you hear about may be false, what you see is true. It is so natural that people rarely doubt it. But now it seems that many things lead us to further discussion on this matter. Have you ever noticed that a chopstick looks broken off when put into the water but it doesn’t look so when you lift it out of the water? Have you ever noticed that when you pick a good red apple to have a good taste but only to find there’s a worm in it? And when a magician makes things disappear, perhaps all of us can’t believe what we see. That’s what I want to tell all of you: Seeing is not believing, you need to look into things carefully before you come to a final conclusion.

When you watch the close-up magic performance, you may be amazed by what you have seen. When the train disappears in front of your eyes, when the magician is cut in half by the electric saw,” Oh, my God! It’s impossible”. You may blurt out the words. Yeah, it really happens under your very eyes. But you know that the train is still there and the magician is not hurt by the terrible machine. The things we mentioned above are simple but worth thinking deeply about.

There is an old Chinese saying: “Think twice before you do.” I think it is also right that think twice before you judge. No matter how wise a man is, he always has his limitations.

So next time, when you see something strange, please extend your hands to touch it or use your head to think it over again and again, because seeing is not believing.
