The very movie mentioned above is produced in honor of a writer of distinction Stefan Zweig and his era when there are only faint glimmers of civilization left in that barbaric hell that was once known as humanity.

The whole story is about all the adventures a manager Gustave and his lobby boy Zero took both of whom worked for The Grand Budapest precisely,this movie allude the falling of European traditional culture or even serves as an autobiography of Zweig who left his motherland under the stress of the evil world war after which he felt isolated as to commit a suicide.

Gustave is a representative of a gentleman who ran a popular hotel as a competent manager, a romantic poet,an elegant friend and even a qualified along with the lobby boy Zero was chased after by the Dmitri family for an old lady of this family died with a priceless paint given to her lover Gustave as a bounty.

On the one hand, Gustave’s perfect manner,romantic poems and Zero’s loyalty ,kindness represent the sparking humanity in ancient European culture. On the other hand,however,the Dmitri family is the symbol of poor spirit. The son of the family was desperate to get back the priceless paint by means of revising testament,murdering lawyer,killing is crude, brutal, insane and

regardless of law as a reflection of Hitler. Through the distinct contrast,both the angle and the evil sides are magnified as a result which this movie showed its respect to the ancient culture with great persuasion.

As Zweig said himself”I’m here to apologize before you all. I’m here in the state of shame because my language is the language in which the world is being destroyed. My mother tongue,the very words that I speak,are the ones being twisted and perverted by this machine that is undoing humanity.” In the 1930s,with industry developing too rapidly,the situation of the world became out of control step by step. The Nazis came into power accompanied by the Second world war. Anything relevant to humanity or culture was being destroyed quickly. Meanwhile centralization of power became the main stream.

Having watched this movie, I got to know more about my favorite author Stefan Zweig and the reason of his suicide which is regarded as a kind of being a martyr for religion by me now. I was also impressed by the history of the Second World War during which there’s still faint glimmers of civilization left. Above all,I came to realize what civilized culture is to a nation. Not essential as it is,civilized culture is spiritual pillar to a people. It influence how people behave,react and meditate,determining how far a nation will last.
