第一节:阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A
Several days ago, while I was logging onto QQ, my cousin’s QQ head popped out online. We hadn’t seen each other for a few months, so I decided to start a conversation with her. My cousin is studying in a college of our city. Her hobby is surfing the Internet. Every time I am on the computer, she is always online, listening to music or decorating her “personal space”. I like visiting her space. It’s creative and modern and worth a visit. I can’t imagine my designing such a colorful web page.
When I read the sentences she sent to me, I noticed that the Chinese characters had been changed, but I could still guess their meanings. I took a strong interest in this type of new characters. Further observation made me realize that they added some common Chinese radicals(部首) to the original characters, making them more vivid, a little like Japanese. My cousin said this gives new life to the Chinese language and culture.
It is true that the Internet has reinvented our language, but I still can’t accept this new cultural change. Some Chinese characters have meanings in the shapes; one shouldn’t superficially change them by adding an additional radical. So I persuaded my cousin to change her new idea and use standard characters to communicate. And she willingly accepted my advice.

B. the author can design a webpage creatively
C. the Chinese characters have been changed into Japanese
D. the author thinks people should use standard characters to communicate B
Until now, the world's oldest living tree on record is a nearly 10,000 year-old spruce (云杉) that has been discovered in central Sweden.
Researchers had discovered the spruce with 9,551 years old in the Fulu Mountain, according to Kullman, a professor of Physical Geography at the university in northwestern Sweden. That would mean it had taken root in probably the year 7,542 BC.
“It was a big surprise because we thought until now that this kind of spruce grew much later in those regions,\" he said.
Scientists had previously (以前) believed the world's oldest trees were 4,000 to 5,000 year-old pine trees(松树) found in North America. “The new record-breaking tree was discovered when Swedish researchers were doing a survey of tree species (种类) in the region,” Kullman said.
The tree's genetic material age had been calculated using science technology at a laboratory in Miami, Florida. Kullman said, “Spruces had long been regarded as newcomers in the Swedish mountain region because the weather there wasn’t suitable for them to live. Recently some houses in our community have been broken into. I would like to give you some suggestions about how to prevent from stealing (盗窃).
First, let’s talk about lighting. We should turn on the outside lights at night. Inside the house, it’s a good idea to put automatic timers (自动定时器) on lights. When you are out, it will still look like someone is at home. If you live in an apartment building, make sure that there’s good lighting in the garage and in the hallways.
Next, let’s talk about locks. First of all, cheap locks are not safe. You should buy special locks to lock your doors and windows. 83 Remember to lock your doors and windows, even when you leave for just a minute. Did you know that half of the thieves break in through unlocked doors and windows?
My next suggestion is not to keep lots of money in the house. It’s wise to put your money in a bank. You should put marks on your other valuables, like television, stereos and cameras, so that the police can return them to you if they are found.
84Believe it or not, if you follow all of these suggestions above, your house will be safer.

I’m writing to say that we had a discussion about if our city should build a new zoo. Some of our classmates agree that we should build a new zoo in our city. They think zoos are good places for the pupils to learn more knowledge about animals. And they can
educate the public to protect the endangered animals. What’s more, they can help us urge
people to care for the animals.
However, the other students think differently. Animals also need freedom. They mustn’t be kept in cages. They won’t be happy in such a small place. And some zoos only feed the
animals only once a day. What’s worse, many animals become unhealthy when they are in zoos.
I think we shouldn’t build a new zoo, too. Animals would be much happier if they can live in the mountains. We need to learn to live with animals on the earth. They are our
friends. So I think they shouldn’t live in cages.
Sincerely, Zhang Hong
