摘要：The present invention is directed to a system and method which essentiallyhides the protection device from the public network, while still allowing the device toperform security inspections. The system and method, in one embodiment, operates in

the promiscuous mode and does not have a physical address that is identifiable to anyinternal or external device, and is thus not available for direct attacks. Using this

approach, every data packet flowing into the protected system can be viewed and actionstaken to protect the network while the device remains free of the threat of a directattack.
