Reading in Modern Society

Good morning！Ladies and genltemen, I feel very honor to stand here and give you a speech about Reading in Modern Society. Nowadays，the 21st century is an information age due to the rapid development of science and technology. Before you know it, the information network will replace the original act of reading by paper. In ancient times,before paper was invented, people read from books made of bamboo! Although it seems that reading from bamboo or now,reading from paper,is a slow way of life, but it’s the most original and classic way.Slow life , slow reading.

And as we all know, in mordern times,mobile phones,the Internet and television are part of our daliy life. This is known as a fast way of life, before these things,we were expected to stay home, reading books or doing homework. But now,when we are walking in the street,we can’t help but take out our mobile phones,and flick through the pages to see what is going on.This is the way we are always connected. Fast life, fast reading. Through the interent, we can easily get what we want to read ,but who knows whether this is a curse or a

blessing ? The development of such information means the way of paper reading will gradually die,so we have reason to believe that one day, the Interent will dominate our way of reading in the future. Paper reading may come close to extinction. However,I feel the written word in any form is a mean of acquiring knowledge. Bear in mind, the slow life of reading on paper, although not convenient , it allow us to slow down the pace of modern life,to enjoy the peace the books bring to us, and to feel the beauty of our live. We will find reading a book can be so quiet and so wonderful. It’s my firm belief that reading in modern society serves for delight,for ornamentation, and for ability. And hence all these elements together ,can make a full man！ Thank you for listening!
