When China launches its Shenzhou VI spaceship, it will most likely carry two astronauts and stay in space for five to seven days, according to Wang Yongzhi, the chief designer of the country's manned spacecraft. In an interview with local media, Wang spoke highly of the team of researchers based in Shanghai, who designed Shenzhou V's main engine.

Asked whether Yang Liwei, China’s first astronaut who blasted into space a month ago from Jiuquan, Gansu Province, will be picked again for the second mission, Wang said the final decision will be made only 16 hours before the launch, so \"it is still too early to say” .

Yang, on his first trip to Shanghai, said he was touched by the enthusiasm of the local people. He said he was also impressed by the city's cosmopolitan and high-tech outlook.

Reminded by local journalists of his non-stop schedule since he returned to earth---touring around the country and giving speeches---Yang said that it was part of his responsibility to spread the message of encouragement to his compatriots.

Meanwhile, lured by the visiting space program team, 130,000 people have thronged the round-the-clock, two-day space exhibition at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum since the free show opened on Tuesday.

Among them, more than 70,000 visited between 6 pm and 6 am despite the biting cold, curious to see \"what the country's first manned spaceship looked like\" . \"It's incredible! \" li Jun, an exhibition official, told Shanghai Daily yesterday. \"We never expected such a huge number of visitors, especially since they queued up in these freezing conditions.

In the past ten years, America's National Basketball Association (NBA) has grown increasingly dependent on the rest of the world to supply players.

When Michael Jordan and Larry Bird won gold in Barcelona in 1992, the Americans were praised for teaching the world how to play basketball. This season, however, 20 percent of NBA rosters (花名册) will be filled by non-Americans. NBA commissioner David Stem happily embraces the trend (趋势) . On a visit to Paris in October, Stern outlined his vision for the future which is likely to see Europe hosting NBA games by 2010.

The NBA is now planning to take China by storm. \"Our experience in China has been that it is going to be explosive in its growth,\" said Stern. The strategy (战略) in China is television. \"We've made 14 deals in China with local and national networks on cable and satellite.\" The success of Chinese centre Yao Ming has paved the way for the NBA marketing blitz in China. The NBA, which is broadcasted in more than 200 countries in 42 languages, will put that to the test in October 2004 when the Houston Rockets play two pre-season games against the Sacramento Kings in Beijing and Shanghai. The NBA knows that it needs a global market to compensate for tough times on home soil.

\"It doesn't matter where the players come from, all the NBA teams now know that they have to scout(揽得(人才)) internationally,\" said Terry Lyons, the NBA’s vice-president of international public relations. \"It has increased the level of

competition here. \" As Frenchman Tony Parker and Argentine Emanuel Ginobili showed in winning championship rings with the San Antonio Spurs last season, many people can earn the respect of their American peers (同行) . The place is a lovely meadow( = grassland) surrounded by deep woods on a hilltop overlooking a beautiful lake in the Catskill Mountains 120 miles from New York. It's quarter past eight in the morning and you're about to commute your office in the city. Yet there’s no paved highway nearer than 15 miles and it is 50 to the railroad station.

Now you hear a low hum, and over the horizon appears a flying machine. Pressing the button of a box nearby, a radio signal flashes to the machine. The aircraft, looking oddly like a horizontal electric fan drones (嗡嗡声) towards you. When the pilot is directly overhead, all forward movement of the machine stops and it descends vertically (垂直的) until the cabin door is within a foot of the ground. On the machine's grey side painted Helicopter Express to New York. The door opens and you step inside; you nod a greeting to the copilot who takes you commutation(月票) ticket and you wave to the those of the other 15 passengers you know. The door closes and the helicopter immediately ascends vertically to 1000 feet. Now it darts ahead, quickly attaining a forward speed of 140 miles an hour. Fifty minutes later the helicopter bus hovers over a midtown New York building, descends slowly to alight on a roof space some sixty yards square. You go into the building, take the elevator( = lift) to the street below, and walk half a block to your office. Not quite an hour has elapsed since you drank you morning coffee in your home.

Does this sound like a fantasy imagined by science fiction writers? If so, I can assure you, as a practical aeronautical engineer, that such a trip is neither fantastic nor impractical. I'm convinced that a helicopter bus service is not only practicable but, in fact, inevitable. In the air age of tomorrow, the manufacture, sale, and upkeep of the direct-lift machine will become a billion-dollar industry just as the automobile industry. There'll be many starting changes in our way of life. 72. What would he the best tide for the passage?

A. The Coming Air Age B. Helicopters in the Future C. Future Life in New York D. The Quickest Way 73. The purpose of writing this passage is ____, A. to describe the future life in New York

B. to predict that helicopter bus service is to become an important means of

public transportation

C. to show us that rich people will choose countryside as their future homes D. to make people believe that great startling changes will take place in future 74. According to the writer, in the air age of tomorrow,____. A. traveling by air will become common for the country people

B. over ninety percent of the Americans will own at least one helicopter C. all the other public transportation will be of no use except helicopters D. people dealing with \"direct-lift flying machines\" will make a lot of money 75. The underlined word \"descend\" probably means____.

A. come or go down B. fly away C. fall down D. disappear
