One year, I was the driver, my wife Adriana was in the passenger seat; my three kids were all piled in the back seat. We tried forcing our dog Susie into her carrier, but she strongly refused to be placed there, so the kids decided to put her by their feet. That year, we traveled at night to avoid the heavy holiday traffic.
The first three hours were fine. My three kids were all fast asleep in the back seat, including Susie who was lying on their lap (大腿). My wife accompanied (陪伴) me and kept me up through that first few hours of driving. But by around 1:00 am, she fell asleep too. I was also very sleepy by that time, so I stopped at a small store and tried to wake myself up with a cup of coffee which helped for several miles. But soon the boring driving beat it soon.
1 had fallen asleep at the wheel when Susie roughly woke me up by jumping onto my lap. When I opened my eyes, I saw the glaring (闪耀的) headlights of the truck heading towards our car. I quickly drove the car back to our lane (路). I had narrowly missed hitting the truck.
I checked everyone to see if they were OK, and they were all still fast asleep. I drove the rest
of the distance very awake. Thanks for Susie.

Mickey was a nice, cheerful, optimistic boy. No one could remember ever having seen him angry; he didn't mind whatever people said to him. Even his teachers admired his good character, which was so unusual that a rumor (谣言) was going round that Mickey's goodness must be due to
some special secret. They questioned Mickey so much that, one afternoon, he invited his favorite teacher, Mr. Anthony, to tea. When they had finished, Mickey showed Mr. Anthony around the house. When Mickey opened his bedroom door, the teacher froze, and a big smile spread across his face. The wall was a unique collage (拼贴画) of thousands of colors and shapes! It was the loveliest decoration Mr. Anthony had ever seen.
\"Some people at school think I never think badly of anyone,\" Mickey started to explain, \"and that nothing at all bothers me, and that I never want to insult (冒犯) anyone, but that's not true at all. I'm just like anyone else. I used to get angrier than all the other kids. But years ago, with the help of my parents, I started a small collage. I could use any kind of material and color for it. With every little piece I stuck on I added some bad thought or act.\"
It was true. The teacher looked closely at the wall. In each one of the small pieces he could read, in tiny letters, \"fool\消极的) things.
\"This is how I started turning all my bad times into an opportunity to add to my collage. Now I like the collage so much that, each time someone makes me angry, I couldn't be happier. They've given me a new piece for my work of art.\"
Without telling anyone, on that very day, Mr. Anthony began his own collage. He would introduce it so often to his students that, years later, they called that neighborhood \"Art Town\". Each house contained its own wonderful works of art, made by those cheerful and optimistic children.

Football is popular in the world. But football is a violent sport. Injuries in football are very common and often serious enough to require a trip to the emergency room. To learn how to keep things as safe as possible on the football field, follow these tips.
Gear (用具) Guidelines
You'll need a lot of protective gear to play football. 1 If you show up for a practice or game without a necessary piece of equipment, tell your coach, and don't try to play until you fix the situation.
Before Kickoff
2 Ideally (理想地), you should eat a healthy diet and get regular exercise year-round, but if you can't, be sure to start preparing for the football season by working out and eating right during the summer. This will help you be a better player and help prevent injuries.
During Games and Practices
3 The point of the game is to hit opposing (对立的) players, but ifyou don't do it in a legal manner, you will cost your team on the field and greatly increase your risk of injury.
If you have any pain or discomfort, take yourself out of the game. 4 It only worsens the injury and keeps you out of action longer. Don't start playing again until the pain goes away or you get cleared to play by a doctor.
A Few Other Reminders
Make sure there is first aid available (可用的) at the fields where you play and practice, as well as someone who knows how to carry it out. 5 Have a plan for emergency situations, and be sure there is someone available to take injured players to the emergency room or get in touch with medical personnel to quickly treat serious injuries.

D. Know and obey the rules of football.
