It should be easy for you to recognize faces of your family and friends. But can you remember faces that you’ve only seen once? You might think it is very difficult.
However, studies have found a small number of people have amazing face recognition skills. They are the so-called “super recognizers”, who can remember at least 80 percent of faces they’ve seen.It is unknown how many people truly have these skills. But studies show that at least one in 50 people are super
3
recognizers, reported the Daily Mail.Bournemouth University of UK recently carried out a study, trying to find whether super recognizers have a different way to process (处理) faces. They found that when these people look at faces, they spend more time looking at the person’s nose.Researchers also found that these people are not particularly smarter than others. Their super ability is restricted(有限的) only to face recognition.Another important finding is that there are subtypes of super recognition. Some super recognizers never forget faces. But for some, if you present pairs of faces to them at the same time, they can quickly decide whether the faces are of the same person or two different people. In fact, many super recognizers say they are very good at “spotting ” faces in a crowd. These subtypes of super recognition could be applied to many areas of life. For example, the skills could be very useful at a passport control checkpoint.Super recognizers could help match faces in CCTV footage . They could also help police spot known troublemakers, bad people or even missing people in crowds.

Several years ago, Illinois, the mayor of Chicago, decided to have vegetation planted on Chicago City Hall after he visited Germany, a leader in green roof design.
Green roofs are designed to save energy and collect rainwater. Roofs covered with plants help keep buildings cool. Earlier in 2008, researchers in Texas reported that green roofs can reduce a building’s air conditioning costs by about one-fifth compared to blacktop roofs. Besides, vegetation on roofs help stop water running off into streets and make the life of a roof longer.
Researchers say Green roofs usually do not get much above 27℃, so temperatures might not be a problem for growing. However, green roof gardeners have to be careful not to put too much weight on the roof. This is true whether plants are grown in soil or water.
“Not all green roofs perform well,” Mark Simmons, one of the researchers said, “Designs are different in keeping buildings cool and collecting rainwater. They have to be done right.” In order to improve green roof conditions, researchers did many experiments. They compared products from different companies to help them understand how to make their designs work better. Researchers also found some native plants such as sedums which need little water. Therefore, they can help the green roofs take in more water and help keep buildings cool.
Today, the tops of some buildings in America look like farms as well as parks. Rainwater is used to grow lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and many other kinds of plants.
42. Mayor Richard Daley learned how to_________ from Germany.
A. visit old friends B. design green roofs C. design parks D. plant trees in parks 43. According to the passage, plants on roofs can_________.

A. green roofs can save money B. the designs of green roofs are sasy
