Practice 1
Getting ready
l Point and talk about the pictures in each number.
l T: can I borrow your eraser? (point to the eraser under number 2.)[Ss: sure. Here you are./ Yes, you can.]
ll Continue with the other sentences.
Using the book
l T: let’s listen to the tape.
l Play the tape for number 1, then pause.
l T: was it “sure. Here you are.” Or “no, sorry”?(point to the two sentences under number 1.)[Ss: Sure. Here you are.]
l T: circle it (Circle the picture and sentence with your finger.)
l Continue with the rest, pausing after each number and letting Ss repeat sentence.

Getting ready
l T: what’s this?(point to the picture of the book in number 1.)[Ss: it’s a book.]
l Continue with your book? On the board. Circle use.
l Write can I use your book? On the board. Circle use.
l T: can I use your book? Repeat. [Ss: can I use your book?]
l Take a book from a student and pretend to read it .
l Write the other sentences on the board, circle the new vocabulary and have Ss repeat the sentences.
Using the book
l T: now, read the questions.
l Have the class say the sentences.
l Put Ss in small groups and have them use a book, pen, ruler and an eraser to practice asking and answering the questions.

Getting ready
l Have Ss cover the lyrics with their hands and look at the pictures around the lyrics.
l T: what do you think the song will say? (Point to the pictures.)[Ss: can use pen? Can I borrow a pen?, etc.]
l Accept all Ss’ guesses and then ask them to uncover the lyrics.
Using the book
l T: let’s sing a song! Let’s listen first.
l Play the tape and point to each word as it is sung.
l Divide Ss into two groups.
l One group sings the questions and the other group
l Sings the responses.

Activity 1
Getting ready
l Have Ss look at the pictures.
l T: listen. “borrow a stapler.”
l Move your hand over the six pictures and slowly lower it to the picture of the girl borrowing a stapler from her teacher.
l Dictate other phrases to Ss and have them find the picture, e.g. listen to a song. Call my mother. Etc.
Using the book
l T: draw lines to match the pictures and the phrases.
l Point to the picture of the girl borrowing the stapler and trace the line to the phrase borrow a stapler.
l Have Ss do in the class, checking for accuracy.
l Have Ss get into pairs to check one another’s work.
